My ‘67 has a 69+ 454 with a long water pump. I want to put the alternator on the drivers side because the factory harness locates it there and the ac compressor is on the pass side. . I’ve found that long water pump brackets are only made for the pass side or you can find lower brackets for the lower drivers side. Which is where the ps pump goes.

So has anybody ran into to a similar problem? Other option is to get a short water pump (if they fit this 454 engine) and then just get the alt brackets for the drivers side.

I think this answers your question, you can put all 67 396 stuff right on to your 454 but of course you have to put the short pump on as well.

Yes that was kind of what I was figuring out. I’m just not sure why there isn’t a bracket to locate the alternator on the upper drivers side with a long pump. Surely someone else has wanted that. But I think even if I could find a special bracket it might be cheaper for me to just replace the water pump. They aren’t expensive and mine is old and unknown anyway.

Look at Allen Groves stuff (and other aftermarket suppliers)for a bracket before you change things up.
If you go with the short pump, you'll find the brackets to use it are getting hard to find too.
I've a 454 in my 65 and it took a while to find all the correct stuff for it to use the short pump. And,they are not cheap!

As I remember, the pulleys are different as well.

I don't even care to have the short pump really but I wanted the alternator on the drivers side due to all the wiring harness stuff and the AC stuff being on the pass side. Seemed logical.

I did order a short pump and pulleys, so hopefully it will work. I'll post some pics after I install it. It wasn't expensive compared to some of the custom brackets I've been seeing.

This is exactly what I did.

Agree with "100 Chevrolet." Look at Alan Grove kits which I have installed on at least 2 69 "B" bodies.
I believe he offers kits, or at least he did, for both short and long water pump applications.

Too bad I didn't check out the alan groves stuff before I bought a bunch of parts.

but in the end I am happy because I got all my accessories back where they originally were so it will fit up better with the wiring and AC stuff. And I think the cost was much less going with the short water pump setup. I found stock brackets for everything to get it back to original.
