Thought I'd share this. Last month my truck started making exhaust leak noises under the hood on the driver side. Checked my gasket and it was good. Pulled the header this morning and found several weld failures at the bottom collector.

I couldn't see the cracks until I pulled it, as I had wrapped the headers to protect my plug wires. My friendly neighbor re-welded them and now I'm good to go. Pretty thin material on those pipes.

The heat cycle is what cracks them. Not much of a way to avoid it. Nice pic.
Glad you got it fixed

wrapped headers may fail sooner if they get hot enough to glow.

I wondered about that, the potential effect of wrapping on the pipes themselves. There was a bit of wrap overlap at the bottom. For now, I've left it off and will see if the plug wires, etc. have enough heat protection.

By the way, after only 8,000 miles, the wrapping was very brittle and literally disintegrated and fell off when I touched it.

They will crack sooner as the heat is held in and they will run hotter anywhere they are wrapped
So typically wherever the wrap ends is where it will crack first
