I am planning on freshening up a 1998 Camaro LS1 engine. I am hoping to just replace rod and main bearings, oil pump, cam & lifters, head gaskets and water pump. What else would you replace?

Without know your intentions. If you have the money forged pistons. the hp pistons crack ringlands under hp increase

the 243 heads are a famous swap but that leaves problems with your coil mounts.

on your stock heads you have prybar lift points so you want to search for a good head gasket to keep the heads sealed.

I dislike the tq to yield bolts so arp for head bolts and balancer for my rebuild.

good luck on rebuild...

oh forgot timing chain... summit has a replacement chain you can use with your stock timing chain sprockets.

1) How does the engine run now? 2)What problems are you trying to correct? For example what is the goal for changing the cam?
