Hi all,

been gone a while but now I'm back. Been fighting cancer since the first of the year, but now have a clean bill of health. had to have neck surgery and they took out my lymph nodes and saliva glands. Dr's at MD Anderson (hell of a place) said they got it all, but I had to have 32 radiation treatments to be sure they had it all. was told it should take 4 to 6 months for recovery which I hope includes my hair. in all of this i lost 35 lbs. needed to but hell of a way to do.

skin cancer is a bad cancer but curable. Dr's can't say where it came from as it wasn't hereditary. I think it was from my time in Vietnam where I went almost a year with no shirt on. possible but not sure.

at least I am 100% cancer free, and hope to stay that way.

working on getting my strength and stamina back. hopefully i'll get the cars back up and going and on the street.

been a slow recovery but the worst is behind me.

did decide that this is something I would not wish on anyone. Kudos to the VA. they have been taking care of me as well as I could be. old me will never have anything bad about the Veterans administration and how they take care of us, and most at no charge. Have no idea what the cost of all of this was but bet it was astronomical. MD Anderson cancer center in Houston is fantastic in there care of patients. had they surgery on a Thursday, spent the night and they released me on Friday and sent me home.

I am grateful for my friends prayers and help in getting over all of this, especially my wife of 49 years.

in ending, i would tell a person that if they have a sore that doesn't heal or a lump somewhere go see a dermatologist and have it looked at. don't wait.

well I'm back and i missed this forum.

I will add you to my prayers for you to stay cancer free in the future. Sorry you had to go through that.

Glad to have you back. I had a squamous cell cancer removed from my right temple last year. Probably caused by all those days spent in the sun fishing years ago in Florida. Fortunately for me, I saw a doctor before it spread and had it removed. They said they got all of it. So far, no recurrence. Congrats to us.

First and foremost congratulations and welcome back to the hobby we love.
Just want to say we have a lot in common, I am also 70, a car lover of course, and spent a year in Southeast Asia as well. For me it was NKP Thailand which was probably a lot better then Nam. I also get my medical care from the VA which has been wonderful to me. So once again welcome home and welcome back to the forum.

Glad you caught it in time. I see my dermatologist every 6 month after I had a melanoma removed from the tip of my nose. Scary stuff.
