Pulled in ,shifted into reverse tried to turn the
wheel. I pulled as hard as I could, the steering
wheel turned very little one way only. Luckily
in the direction I was backing.

When I looked under the truck fluid had run out of
both ends of the rack and was dripping good from
the back of the power steering pump. It was empty.

All I could say was "What the hell".

Has this happened to anyone else

What might be the fix

So wait it had fluid coming out of the rack and the pump...
Put the front end up and see if the wheels turn back and forth freely.
Check those balljoints. You may have seized joints.
Is the rack original or aftermarket?
