Having thoughts of doing an LS engine swap. The 307 is healthy but thirsty. I have replaced the 3-on-the-tree with a 700R4 which helped push the MPG to 15 to 18 highway if I’m really easy on it and a good tail wind. She has a 3.72 rear. I’ve heard some good things about the LS engine family and wonder if I should pursue this. Have 0 experience with the LS and would like to hear some input from anyone that has some. Like what years, size ect. I see there are kits out there for the 67 – 72 C10s. Would like to keep the 700R4 or would I need to go with a electronic OD tranny? My objective would be higher MPG and improved drive ability, not high performance/power.

We have done several LS swaps into 69-72 C10's and it is a very straight forward procedure. Even the lower radiator hose to engine fits due to the factory cross flow radiator. Both exhaust manifolds let the pipes clear the frame and steering shaft has clearance. The ones we did had the 4l60E or 4L80E overdrive trans so can't enlightened you on using a 700R4. The LS engines have a reputation for good power, great fuel economy, and a 250k-300k lifespan. Pic is of a 70 with Vintage heat/cool so former plenum space can be used for computer components.
