When I was my 61 BelAir I get a water leak that drips on the floor behind the pedals. I can see a little buildup of dirt, but don't know of any rust. Has anybody had this? Is it likely to be sealer that has dried out or a place where water sits and rusts through. Have discovered the cowl rusts on my wifes F**d Falcon and wonder if the issue is similar. Any photos would be appreciated.

In my experience, the seam between the cowl and the firewall rusted out. I believe the car sat with for years with leaves and other stuff sitting inside the cowl grill. I cut out pieces of the cowl and firewall, fabricated new pieces and welded them in. You may have a different issue. Click on this Link to view photos.

I don’t think the 61 was prone to rust in the channel, may need to remove the windshield to see for sure.

Could be lots of places. Check the condition of the front windshield gasket and see if its all cracked. The wiper motor is another common entry point as well as the heater box. You can get one of those cheapie smoke machines they use at Halloween put in inside with the doors closed and watch for where the smoke comes out. For those that live in Colorado you could hot box like cheech and chong in the Love Machine and see where the smoke comes out of.

I don't suspect rust so much. It is pretty rust free. The wiper motor and heater box could be suspect. I have suspected that old sealant has dried up. I guess I will check these somehow and see. Sounds like I am going to end up upside down under the dash.
