Been a member here for a few years but rarely post but am looking for some help. I am trying to decipher all the codes for my car to know what it rolled off the factory with. As have been able to track down the previous two owners and am told it is painted factory jewel blue and the paint code seems to align. I was also told it was an original 348 car and also found that its sitting in some guys yard! I also know its an LA car based on the VIN and one piece bumpers.

Also trying to figure out if any 61 impala/belair/Biscaynes came without the CHEVROLET lettering on the hood as mine does not have it and the guy who painted it stated he did not fill the holes nor does the hood have any indications they were filled.

What I would love to find out it what options it came with and try and make it as true to form as possible but with some modern updates. I know it might not be to everyones liking but thats okay with me. Any help is appreciated.

Cowl tag
05B = May 1961 2nd week build date
Trim = medium blue cloth interior 839
Paint= 912 Jewel Blue - I think the A might mean white top
VN = Van Nuys California Fisher body plant
61-1637 = 1961 Chevy 2 door Sport Coupe V-8 model # does not tell you if it had 348 from the factory

ACC 15 - not sure what 15 is for - no other accessories listed by Los Angeles GM plant on tag Fairly typical

You need would need the original window sticker to confirm what car came from factory with
There are a few things on the car gas line, flags on hood that could help somewhat - they would not tell you which 348 it could have come with

The serial number
1= 1961
1637= 2 door v-8 Sport Coupe
L= Los Angeles GM assembly plant
183412 - the 83,412th 1961 Chevy out of Los Angeles GM plant starting at 100,000 on serial number.

Other than the big wheels which I'm not crazy about, I think you hit a home run. My kind of car.

Hey Jeremy. Our cars are 2 months and 18,355 cars apart. I have '12' there and one option I have is 2 speed wipers and of course EZI means tinted glass. I see the build sheet inside the passenger fender but I haven't dug it out yet. That might tell us the '12' or maybe '1' and '2' mean. If you had/have 2 speed wipers maybe we could know that's the '1' indicates.

I believe the number after 'VN' indicates you have the 1480th bel air bubbletop built in LA and I have the 1671th.

Also, odd about no hood letters. I never noticed that. I wouldn't guess even a replacement hood would omit them.
