Hey everyone,

I'm new to the forum and looking for advice and guidance on where to begin with my 396 big block 67 elco that's been sitting in my garage for 3 years. Full disclosure, I'm a novice. My dad gave me this car when I was 19 and I'm now 31. It was my daily driver off and on for about 5 years until I couldn't afford to drive it anymore (gas and maintenance). My dad always helped me with questions and problems, but he passed away a year and a half ago. The entire time I've had the car I've battled and troubleshooted 3 major problems: battery charging/dying issues, overheating issues, and leaking oil/trans fluid issues. Plus, now it has a flat from sitting for so long.

Here's what I've done to the car starting with the most recent:
  • New alternator with built-in voltage regulator and new battery (4 years ago, but battery started dying within 1 year before I parked it 3 years ago)
  • Replaced rear main seal (5 years ago)
  • Replaced original water pump with Edlebrock hypo water pump (10+ years ago)

Bearing all these issues in mind, what's the first thing I do (besides get a new tire)? Should I address the electrical issue first? There's just so many things, I feel overwhelmed. Also, looking for recommendations for shops in the San Fernando Valley/Los Angeles, CA area that do good work and are fairly priced/trustworthy. I won't be able to do most of this work on my own. I live in an apartment, so don't have access to all of the tools or space needed. Plus, I don't have the knowledge or skill to do it myself.

Thanks in advance!
