When I first bought the truck, over 30 years ago I had a problem getting the 205 out of 4 wheel drive. The tires on the truck were 31" but different brand in the front and rear. Once I got a set that all matched I never had another problem except replacing the seals a couple of times. Today I took it out and did a little 4 wheeling. When I got back to pavement I went to take it out of 4 wheel high and it wouldn't disengage. I tried a few time ending up driving a slow ride home in 4 wheel drive. I know nothing last forever but it's a 205. The 35" mud tires I have on the truck now are only 4 or 5 months old and I doughty are the problem, Anyone got a quick fix or is it time to grab me a good shop manual and rebuild it and if so how much am I looking at to do a major rebuild?
Thanks guys.

Check your email. I sent you some NP205 info. Sorry, I can't be much help. I've never taken one apart to see how it works. Let us know if you find the problem.

This is common. It is bound inside.

Back up and try it, letting it roll to a stop.

Or, back up or drive forward, at 5-10 mph, put (slight) pressure on the 4x4 lever, drive steady, and let off the gas, while in gear, w/the clutch out.

Or, put pressure on the lever and back-up.

Both ways remove the binding. It will pop out w/very little pressure once un-bound.
