Two years ago I drove my 92 year old dad to Yazoo City Mississippi so he could see his relatives and friends he grew up with that he hadn't seen in several years. We drove the 56 Bel Air that year and had a blast. Just dad & me spending time together and enjoying the road together seeing some of his child hood places I never knew about.
Well May 1,2019 we set out on the same trip together again but this time in the 64 SS. Dad is 94 now and is in pretty good shape so he want's to make the trip and we plan to have the Impala in the Jerry Clower festival in downtown Yazoo City on Saturday the 4 of May.

Last trip we had to be back the week before the festival so we missed it.
If your in the area and would like to come by and say hello I know my dad would love it, he is also retired from GM Chevy division with 35 years. He held many titles in his career but I think his best one was the top instructor for Chevy in Charlotte NC for 12 years. He taught every mechanic that worked at any dealership in the south east that wanted to be certified.

Good one Andy. I hope you both have a blast. Make sure you post a couple of pics. That’s pretty cool your dad held that position in GM. He’s most likely a wealth of knowledge.

Thanks,
Dad has his good days and bad. He does have a lot of info but sometimes it's hard for him to get it out.
I'm very honored he and I get to do this again. I'm looking forward to it and hoping we see some cool stuff like last time.

Just remember to make frequent stops, so you and day can drain, and the car can get filled up. I remember a time when my girlfriend and my car couldn't pass a service stop, and now I know what it is like. Old age has a way of reminding you that you are getting on in years.
Enjoy your trip, and be safe.

Well the drive started out OK. It didn't last long though. Drove 2.5 hr to get dad. Started over to Asheville NC and going into Asheville it started spitting and sputtering. Ran it low on gas! Gas gauge is off so we stopped filled up and I guess it sucked a bunch of trash up into the fuel line filter.
We took the Impala back to my house and got my 71 C 10. Drove it down with no problems. I drove it 489 miles running 80 MPH with ac on and filled up one time in Alabama. Still had over 1/4 tank left but dad didn't want to take any chances!

That’s a shame about the impala. My gauge in my Belair is off a bit also. Something I’ll get around to someday. Also what’s the speed limit over there? 80 Mph is moving .

Most of the interstate is 70 MPH. I run about 10 miles hour over and the law don't mess with you.

New 20 gallon tank sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. I hope to start on it tomorrow after my doctor appointment. Going to drive it to get most of the fuel out of it before starting on it.

Just don't have an incandescent drop light anywhere near where you are working. Use a LED flashlight for safety reasons. Also, if possible, have someone near by when you take the old tank down, and they should have either a CO2 or powder fire extinguisher handy. When I was an EMT, I saw too many burn victims from gasoline accidentally being ignited. They were never a good sight, and recovery took many months.

New gas tank installed and no problems. I took the old tank and poured the gas through a heavy rag to filter it out. I then poured it back in the new tank about 3 gallons maybe. There was a bunch of black crud in the rag after doing it.
Drove it home with no issues. I hope it's done for the Power Tour.I got the spare wheel & tire done also.
