I recently got a power master power gen alternator part number 82051. I wanted to install it and I’ve heard to just run a direct wire from the battery to alternator, but was wondering if I can still use my original wire that used to go to generator originally? I will not be using the voltage regulator anymore as the new alternator is internally regulated. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.-frank

You could, but it's not a good idea. The original wire is too small for the 90 amp alternator and it runs inside under the dash before it comes back out to the starter. Run a 10 gauge wire directly from the alternator to the battery terminal of the starter. Also run a 14 gauge wire from the alternator to the horn relay to operate the horns.
You can also connect the small brown wire that is now on the generator to the other terminal on the alternator and the "gen" light will work as it always did.

Be sure and ground the new alt to sheet metal, frame or engine.

I use an 8awg charge wire on my alternator.
