Greatings - I'm investigating installing AC in my 72 C10 307 with a non-air cab. I've found Vintage Air (Gen II and IV), Old Air, Nostalgic, Classic Auto, and LMC on line. Hoping some of you can provide some feedback of pros/cons and if I missed any manufactures. I'm curious about Classic Auto and LMC... are their kits made by one of the other's on my list? Most of the usual vendors carry AC kits and list the provider with Vintage Air being the most popular.
Some things I'm looking for are "in dash" vents, cost, and reliability. This will be a big investment for me and want the most bang for the buck.

Hmm... 50 people have read this post and no responses... none of you have installed an AC kit into your vintage pickup? How about any car / truck?

Another thought has been the idea of transplanting a factory AC from a donor 67 - 72 truck. Has anyone done this?

I'll provide input on my solution:
- Factory parts for vents, controls, vacuum valves
- Replaced old, unreliable A6 compressor with a Sanden compressor and brackets from Vintage Air
- Swapped to a parallel flow condenser (maybe not really necessary because the original condenser is large)
- Used Ford blue orifice instead of GM white
- charge to R134a and PAG oil at about 75% of original R12 charge. Using standard refrigerant products makes it easy to find places to recharge and work on it.
- New filter/drier and O-rings
- Had custom barrier hoses made. This might not be needed if you get the right adapter for the Sanden to adapt compressor to OEM hoses, and if you use an OEM condenser. I know there are places that sell the adapter for the Sanden (Old Air Products, I think).
- OEM steel fan and HD fan clutch

I'm also using a Champion 3 row radiator from Jegs, Stewart Stage One iron water pump, and high flow Stewart 195 degree thermostat. Temps are stable at 195-200 degress while idling with the A/C on in 90+ degree weather.
