I disassembled my manual shift steering column for paint . The one item I did not make a note of was the location of the column spring. I think it goes down between the lower bearing and a clamp with a bolt through it.Not up below the steering wheel .Is this the correct? Thanks

Yes that's were it goes, at the bottom above the bearing. Did you lubricate the bearing packing? Be careful with that lower bearing, it's easy for the roller bearings to fall out

Assuming by manual shift you mean 4-speed, it might be helpful to look at the exploded diagram on page "Steering 9-7" in the 65 Chassis Service Manual in the Reference Section on the home page.

Sorry do you mean above the lower bearing towards the firewall inside the tube out of sight?
Thanks

No. It is installed on the engine side of the bearing. Its in plain sight when installed. I will send a pic.

no dice, the picture file is 5.30mb and we can only send up to 4.77 pic files. Its just a basic cellphone pic, too bad. If you send an email address in pm I can send to you.

A little tidbit, if you save a jpeg pic to a separate file on your computer its file size will go down. For instance the 5.30mb may reduce to around 4.00 and it doesn't appear to hurt the quality of the pic.

Unfortunately not in this case. Cellphone jpeg is 5.31. Saved as a file on my PC was 5.30. So it is too big. I am a newby Silver member so I've just begun to upload photos. Maybe its time to consider upping the limit on file size? I know that creates extra cost for the site but if users with larger file sizes are willing to foot the bill perhaps it can be considered.
