So I just learned a guy down the way has a 396 Elc SS so I go and check it out. Very clean tho it’s very dirty Been sitting for very long time but not in the weather. My question is how hard to find are these? It’s fully numbers matching. Never seen salt west coast car. He said I could buy it and I didn’t know what to offer so thought I’d ask the pros here. I’m an impala guy but this Camino looks like it would make a sweet ride. All white black lower body and interior. Was talking about 6-8K range. That a good find? I’m hoping you El Camino guys can help me out.

Since you say it is FULLY NUMBERS MATCHING, then you must know that has a significant impact on the value. What engine, what trans, what rear end, what options? Options are big part of the matching numbers since different parts are install for specific option and they all have numbers that you say are all matching. Put out the all the MATCHING NUMBERS for a valuation. For me, just a clean rolling body for $6-8K would be siting in my garage already.

396 SS bench seat auto on the column 12 bolt Posi power steering and brake car. Was original butternut yellow black stripes and interior. Now is white and you would think it came factory that way. So was repainted before but I wish it was original white. With my yellow 64 SS convertible I wasn’t wanting another yellow car. Should I try to rescue this thing? My funds are tight so don’t have a lot to put into it. But I figured some of you El Camino guys would push me in the right direction so decided to ask here. Is this a no brainer?

If I was presented with the opportunity to buy it at the low end $6k, I would not hesitate providing I was confident it was a original SS and not a old clone. Only way to be sure in 1969 is was some original paperwork or POP warranty booklet and thorough inspection.

I heard about a restoration shop here in Mich that had aa late 60's Mustang in and upon stripping the paint they discovered it had a vin tampered with (cleverly cut out and new welded in). The police confirmed it was a stolen car (from hidden vin's) repainted from decades ago from many states afar. That car was supposedly a barn find too but was really hidden for 40 yrs because it was a stolen car. Something to be careful about with older barn finds.

I would not be surprised if it would sell for double that on ebay.

As long as it was clean in both the paperwork side of things, and body condition, I'd buy it, SS or not.
