Probably getting 3 speed with OD tomorrow from an older gentleman that has had it out of a vehicle for about 20 years. What should I keep an eye out for or be looking at when I go pick this up. Anyone in know of someone to go through one of these? Live in Pinellas County Florida.

The pre65 3speed OD was not 1st gear synchronized. The later years OD were Saginaw's with synchronized 1st gear. The OD unit from the 3 speed can be installed onto a Saginaw 4 speed transmission with a little work.

One thing to check for is that the solenoid works as they are pricey to buy or have rebuilt. A battery and a couple jumpers will let you hear them "click".

Thank you for the info. I actually picked it up early this morning. I guess I will have to try that now. Everything looked great on the transmission and shifted great. Reverse did click it out of OD which is what someone else said to check as well.

Thank you for the into. I do believe this is a Pre-65 so was by previous owner that 1st is not synchronized. Not a big deal to me. i do find it interesting about the 4-speed idea but keeping mine on the column, that idea would not work.

Curious to know what is the best place to find a simple wiring diagram. This transmission actually has the pigtail hookup that has a "governor" (term owner used) on the OD side of the transmission. i do not plan on hooking a pigtail to it because i do not have anything hooked to the carburetor. I think I just need to hook up the electric part of the OD to a toggle (hidden under dash). As a safety, he preferred I use a cable to be able to manually engage or disengage the OD. Does this sound like I am on the correct path?
