I've had the car for a year now. I replaced the leaking carb with a reman that is OK with ethanol, and was wondering about the pump. It looks original. If it's ever been removed, it's been a long time ago.

I bought the car to drive, not sit like it has before, and I want it to be dependable. Should I be concerned about the age of the pump?

I have the original in my 1950 Styleline with 119,000 miles and it works like brand new. I've been running it for over 10 years and over 40,000 miles

You might consider throwing an extra rebuilt pump in the trunk if you are concerned about it. A water pump is another good thing to carry with you...neither take up much space and are cheap insurance against a break down and possible towing charge.

I know of two Chevrolet (1935 with later 216 motor and 1932) with fuel pup failures felt to be due to blended fuel. Pumps are cheap and at least you should carry a spare. Parts houses in the country are not all open on Sunday or stock a pump. With my 52 I carried a spare set of plugs, points, condensor, fuel pump and fan belt all the time.

I've used NAPA for many parts for our cars. Always got good parts and no shipping charges.
