That sounds about right. I have a '60 Impala 4-door sedan so I removed the rear door panel to get to them. The crossed flag emblem is pressed in with small clips but not easy to get out, I was afraid of damaging it so getting at it from the back helped. The "Impala" emblem was held on with speed nuts.

I have attached pictures of the items if this is what you are talking about. This is on my '60 Impala 2drht, and they are attached with small clips and the pieces just push on. Hope that this helps. Lamar

so the clips are pressed onto the emblem mounting posts and then the piece is pressed into the holes in the fender? your picture shows the same procedure for the crossed flag logo and the "Impala" script. I just didn't want to try prying on them without knowing what I was doing. I have to remove the seat and inner panels anyhow and thought that would be easy to get to them.

I installed the clips then the pieces. Yes my clips are similar for both pieces. With the quarter window access panel removed will definitely help with removing them.

Yes the emblems pry out from the front side. 2 different barrel clips that push into the body and the emblems push into the clips. If the emblems are stubborn to get out you can spray a little penetrating oil on the pegs to relieve surface tension before prying them out.

lots of thanks everyone. think i'll wait to pull out the seat to remove them. the car was restored some years ago and I tried prying on one of the flag emblems and heard something fall on the inside of the panel so they may have been attached at some time with something on the inside, you never know!since i'm taking the rear seat out anyway that will make it easier I hope.
