Should the timing for a stock 327 with an rv cam be different from spec? I had total advance between 28 and 32 (32 initially) and actually found it to idle smoother by retarding it slightly (29/30) but I dont like retarding the timing, I thought that if anything the timing should be more advanced for the cam. Any thoughts?

every engine is different. so is evry driver. you need to tune it to how you drive. timing marks are meaningless unless you have a pinned and verified balancer ring.

70 L camino, grampa engine, g-force 5 spd, road rage suspension. Pray first before all else fails.

An Edelbrock Performer cam is a sort of RV cam, advanced intake and specs for stronger mid range. Timing sets at 14 degrees initial. You can change the vacuum advance for port vacuum to cut advance at idle, will go to full advance when the carb is opened up some.
