I see that OPGI offers an in dash analog gauge cluster for the 1964 Chevelle. Does American Auto Wire offer a conversion kit from idiot lights to an analog gauge cluster of does one need to buy an entire interior wiring harness?

Hi Jim, long time!

No, there are no conversions for them. If done properly, the 64 used an external ammeter shunt which you would have to buy to make a real one work. No idea about the aftermarket gauges that they offer, but I can guarantee you that they are off-shore pieces. You would be far better off going original and changing the harnesses I'd guess. Not even sure if stock harnesses will work with the off shore cluster. Did you ask them?

Yeah, long time indeed. Out of NY, now down in beautiful Tennessee.
As always thanks for the info. I'm looking at a restored 64 Chevelle that is well done and except for just a couple of little things seems to be right on the money. I'm gathering as much info as I can to help me make a decision. Sold my last car the 62 Impala that now resided in Denver so time to think about something new.
