A wet day in Daytona, and with several restarts...it was looking like they might pull off a nice finish with a bunch of uninterrupted laps there...

And then JJ got the call about rain coming and pretty much bulldozed Paul Menard to gain the lead and (when they called the race due to rain)..win the race.

In my opinion, Menard did NOT move down into JJ.
Johnson just friggin bulldozed him coming around him.

I don't like to see wins like that.

Menard didn't come down until after the initial contact. I don't think he had full control after that.

To me it goes down as a very tainted win. Johnson has displayed some horrible driving at restrictor plate races the last few years, especially in the Clash. This is just one of many.

Not only was it a tainted win, but it was a really lame race too. If this is a product of the rules (and I think it is because Talladega was the same way in the fall) they need to make changes right away.

Aren't they using last years spoilers and set up for Daytona only? Then changing to bigger spoilers and other changes for the rest of the season?

The 2019 Daytona/Talledega spoilers are wider than last year's for whatever that's worth but not a big change.

This has nothing to do with the 1-1/2" mile package with the huge spoiler, restrictor plate, etc. that will make these cars slugs and race in packs with little passing.

I toned down on my attitude about Johnson taking out Menard after hearing Jeff Burton explain a bunch of stuff on NBCSN yesterday. He explained that Menard's chance to keep the lead would have been to drop closer to the bottom before someone pulled out to attempt a pass (but not too far). He also said that these cars with current rules handle very poorly on the bottom when they run side by side.

Still remains to be seen if the 500 will be single line around the top for 495 miles or not.

Well the Xfinity race today was as lame as the Clash. Everyone ran single file around the top. A couple of good cars way back in the pack tried to pull into to bottom lane and pass - they sometimes could pass one car but other times lost ground. Certainly couldn't pull the low line to the leaders.

Looks like the 500 will be the same lame stuff. Too bad.
