So I felt I had to post this here as it is technically not Chevy related.
So I live in Upstate NY, I have seen quite a bit in the automotive industry which made it very difficult for me to replace my truck.
My old truck is a 1990 Scottsdale. I have had it for 10 years now. It took a bit of time to get it exactly where I wanted it. Most recently a nice stainless steel cat and muffler system.
Well last November the frame broke in half.
This is not uncommon being in the Salt belt and the condition of our roads.
I parked the truck until I can attempt to find another frame to throw under it.
So I was looking for a decent priced truck that was not falling apart. Not easy here in NY
I looked at many GM trucks from 1995-2006
The 90s ones were either very overpriced for the condition or rotted severely.
The 2000s ones all shared about the same list of issues and were rotted worse than the 90s ones.
I even looked at a few Fords which were no better.
Not a fan of Dodge,
Not a huge fan of the Nissan Titan.
Cant even touch the Honda.
I do like Toyota alot but no manual option for the v8 model.
But I found one I could not resist that nailed everything but being a manual.
It is a 2003 Toyota Tundra SR5 4 door extended cab with the TRD package.
This truck has always been a NY truck, 1 owner, 165k miles.
I was blown away in the fact that there is literally no sign of rust on the cab corners, doors, wheelwells, rockers, bed. There is a few dents and dings but literally no rust.
Frame has some scale but is still mostly black.
It was the only truck in this kind of condition in the year range.
I was sold on the Test drive as it performed like a new truck. Just flawless.
Push button 4wd, all power options, v8.
There was no noise or play in the suicide doors at all, no wind noise or rattles. (very impressed).
There is only one downside. The exhaust was replaced a few years ago with aftermarket and although it is good for now I imagine it wont last long.
So overall I am super impressed with this truck.
I Am still Old School Chevy loyal. I have full intentions of fixing my ScottsDale and keeping it for hopefully another 10 years.
I must say it is nearly impossible to have a 30 year old truck here anyway so I have always been lucky.
I will post a few pics of the new one tomorrow.
If you read this far thank you. Happy Motoring

Old School GM fan FOREVER

Of course I am a Chevy loyalist (well kind of) but if I were looking for a new or used truck Toyota would be my pick. Right now and probably in the foreseeable future my 91 S-10 Blazer will fill the bill. My son purchased a 2014 Toyota Tacoma, Wow nice truck!
