Went to the jayski site this week and saw that ESPN had fired Jayski and his staff, effective last Monday.

ESPN and Nascar continue to decline.

It was my go to site for Nascar news and info. RIP jayski.

Looking for another site or sites to fill the void.

Don't use Twitter and probably won't start.

Is the site active since Jan. 28? The jayski/ESPN website is still there but nothing posted since the "death notice" on Monday.

You don't have to signup or belong to read it. I don't belong to it or bookface but it's still active jayski postings. Just trying to help.

I liked them as well.

Would be nice to see them start something on their own.

In this day and age, it shouldn't be that hard.

Actually, the guy who started Jayski did start out as a small, independent NASCAR news website. They were bought by ESPN some years back. I wonder if he is interested in going back to the original Jayski.com. There might be a clause in his ESPN deal that may prevent him from doing so, I don't know.

Possibly, but if they actually fired him, that would be a strange contract that he would have signed in the first place.

We will buy you out, but if we get rid of you, too bad.

Unless it's just a name issue. If that's the case, he could then just change the name of it.

I think he sold the site to ESPN 12 or 15 years ago, after the sale he managed it as an ESPN employee until its demise this month.

Non-compete or naming clauses may have ended or maybe not. Whatever they were, they were what he agreed to when he sold to them. No idea whether he got real financial gain, stability, or what from it by selling and staying as an employee. There are many reasons people sell businesses.

Saw an article on jayski's demise by Monte Dutton, who's written Nascar columns for various media as an employee and as a free lancer. He said his days of being an employee have been over for a long time. Print media is dead. ESPN is in terrible shape and they've overspent on many areas and to compensate for that they've had to fire a lot of people and shut down other things. They overspent thinking that having certain broadcast rights would be compensated by cable subscribers - and it's not happening with people cutting the cable. There will be even less auto racing on ESPN this season (maybe zero). Last season they had F1 but could you find it on the TV schedule? No. About the only other thing they still had recently was the Indy 500 and a couple of other Indy car races and they are now gone too. Back in the day, ESPN was the one that brought live flag to flag broadcasts of every Cup race for the first time. That's been gone a long time for them.

Thanks for the heads up, just went to the site to confirm.

Thanks to jayski for perservering, thanks to ESPN for letting it go.

It only took about 1 minute to get some simple info on yesterday's race that wasn't on the useless nascar.com site. Which was an explanation of the cautions and no cautions in the closing laps, from Nascar. Why can't nascar.com do that?

Anyway that's why I always like the jayski site. It had all the info or links to it, presented in a straightforward manner.
