About to start my online shopping for a usb auto charger for cell phone. Plan to install same in center console. Any advice?

As best I can tell, it is not possible to hard wire a usb to the car. The solution appears to be to install a 12 v charging port, aka cigarettes lighter, then install the usb charger into the port.

Does this agree with your experience?

Something like this can be surface mounted and the cover doesn't have to be used to give a clean look that includes a voltmeter to monitor your electrical system. Link to usb port

I was thinking the same thing. In the interim, I use an external charger that I keep charged for a backup energy source.
