I have a 62 chevy k20 with a 4 speed manual tranny. Ive been trying to do as much research on swapping some things out but to start the front axle to swap to disc brakes. The front axle is a dana 44 with 4.56 gear ratio, 8 lug, at least thats what the tag says. Still have to open it up and confirm but from what ive read, if it was a 3/4 ton with a manual tranny it got 4.56 gears, automatics got the 4.10 gears. Ive been trying to find a axle but finding one that matches the gear ratio is alot harder then finding a 4.10 dana 44. Wondering if i should just get a 4.10 axle and have a macine shop do the swap to 4.56 for me. The hubs have the locking 4x4 hubs now and would like to keep it that way. Would like some help on exactly which trucks and years i could find these front axles on because the junkyards dont have many. I read 73-87 chevy trucks and suburbans would work. I want to swap to power steering as well and dont find alot of talk about 3/4 ton 4x4's. Usually just half ton 2wd, so if youve done the swaps im looking to do or have any knowledge on the subject id greatly appreciate your input
