I've been doing master cylinder/booster brake work, and had an alternator that was fluctuating the volt meter. I replaced the alternator. Doing the brake lines, I did break one of the two lines on the back of the internal regulated alternator. Pretty sure I did it correctly. I did notice the "Gen" lamp does not come on any more. Now the battery has died. Question, would a bad bulb keep the charging from happening? I saw the Nov2018 post, but not sure if that pertains to what I am seeing. No Gen lamp at all. Well not certain how much help I can offer.

You mention a change in alternator performance, was this measured by volt meter or flickering of gen light?

How old is alternator and battery? Voltage regulator installed or one wire?

If you have access to volt meter and see over 14 v then alt is likely ok. Then voltage regulator next likely fail point or loose belt. Then have battery tested. If one wire, then best guess bad ground. Hope this helps, and good luck isolating the cause, interested in what you find.

Big Thank You to acardon, he has provide me limitless advice and I can say enough about just how good he is. The best.

I have been doing multiple repairs since last year and, as usual one fix leads to another and then need for two more.

I did have a bad alternator late last last year. Changed it. Then about a week later my vacuum booster started going between hard and soft pedal. I replaced that, but had one flared line that wouldn't stop weeping. I re seated it, cut and re flared it twice, took it to a shop. It still leaked. When I took it back to the shop, we found the new proportion valve was bad. I wanted to cruise car on New Years day so I just put the old valve back in. With all the in and out working on the brake lines, one of the alternator plug connectors broke. It was near 10pm New Years Eve when I finished and I plugged the repaied connector in backwards. I check alt output and it was good, so I though I was OK. I was not! haha

Don knew exactly what was wrong and it is all good now.

Again a big thank you to Don and TR56210 for being there when I need help and giving it to me. Two fine examples of unselfish and giving guys in our hobby.

No, bad bulb would not cause that issue,
Bulb Only lights up when key is on,
I hope Don responds to explain how that works.
