Hey My Fellow Rodder's . I installed a TH350 Transmission Behind the original 265 motor in my 1956 Chevy Bel Air I planned on using a newer starter and mount it to the engine block. Bolt holes on block do not line up. I should have purchased the adapter plate and use the original starter . But Tranny is already installed . Is there any way around this ? Is it possible to drill holes or add a plate or some kind of modification? Please Help. Thank You

The adapter plate is really the only way. There's not enough of a "pad" on the block to drill/tap bolt holes for a block mounted starter motor. You're not the first to make this mistake, and surely won't be the last. It's only the 55-56, 265's that have this issue. 57 on blocks have a larger pad, and come drilled/tapped, even though a block mounted starter motor was only used with the optional Turboglide transmission. It was't until the 62 327 and all 63 cars, that all got a block mounted starter motor; trucks however used the bellhousing mounted one into the early 70's.
