Could someone show me what the glove box latch looks like. I haven't seen anything in my "stuff" that looks like it would fit but then I'm not sure what I am looking for. Lamar

Lamar, mine is a 59, but i believe all the dash parts are the same. My "latch" is just a flat piece of metal attached with 2 screws.

Looks the same as those on my '50, '59, and '69 Chevs too. BTW, it's made of a very hard alloy like hacksaw blade.

Good lock with yours!

Thanks a bunch guys for your help! I couldn't find anything that looked similar so I made one using a Simson joist hanger, it's not the prettiest thing but it holds the glove lid closed. Lamar

Thanks, 59Lenoir but don’t give me too much credit because it was pretty easy. I heard one time a guy was whittling on a piece of wood and he ended up with a hound dog and another guy was a little amazed and ask how he could carve a hound dog from a piece of wood and the whittler said simple, I just carve off everything that doesn’t look like a hound dog. That being said I just took a Simson Joist hanger that I had and cut a piece off of it and then ground off of that piece everything else that didn’t look like a glove box latch. As for welding it shut, that may be little extreme. Lamar

PLS,
Lets just hope you don't need that Simpson Joist hanger for your deck.

I'll be Frank, this hobby isn't getting any easier.

Uh-oh that explains the collapse but at least the glove box door is closed.

I almost went this route but was luckily enough to find one on ebay for $130. I "somehow" talked him down to $40 shipped. Not to be a cheapskate but $130 for a latch?? Glad to know your idea worked out!
