What type alternator, internal or external regulator? Why did you change the alternator? Was it charging before you changed it? What is the voltage at the alternator output terminal with the engine running and without it running? Does the "gen" light stay on?
I'm pretty sure you can use a bearing kit in the PS idler arm, but why would you want to?

it is an internal regulated alternater checked with voltmeter only got a reading of 11.5 volts the old artenater was bad pretty sure gen light does not stay on I pulled the cluster taking wires off the ignition switch with a volt meter on still no charge should the car stop running when the pink acc wire is pulled from ignition switch? don't think it should thanks steve.

OK, does the gen light come on at all? The gen light connects to #1 terminal of the alternator and "excites" the alternator to start it charging.
No, it shouldn't die when the pink wire is disconnected from the ignition switch.
