So what’s the deal with rocker trim.....I thought the SS didn’t have it but now I’m seeing a lot of them with it.

I can't say with absolute certainty but I wouldn't be at all surprised if you could get it either way. Remember that back in the day you could pretty much get what you wanted when ordering a new car. If only it was still that way! But as for the look it's really just a matter of personal preference.

The factory manual states that rocker moldings are deleted on the SS. There is a very lengthy topic on this site from 2012, but I’m not sure how to post a link to an old topic. Maybe someone else can find the link.

Guess I really couldn't say then. Although the manual may say it is deleted it could have still been possible to order it or possibly have it added at the dealership? My 66 SS convert has them and I purchased it from the second owner who had owned it since the early 70's. It looks to be original equipment. The mystery goes on I guess. Interesting subject though, can't say I ever really gave it much thought before. Maybe ignorance really is bliss!

I guess I did not read this very well. I assumed we were talking about a 65 SS. I do believe the 66 SS came with the rocker molding but the 65 did not. The link I mentioned is about the 65. Sorry

This might be the previous thread you were referring to:
https://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showtopic.php?t...

Always great info on CT. So many times I found information here before even becoming a member. There is such a great history and wealth of information on CT based on previously asked questions!

I also think it adds value referencing old threads if they had valuable information.

My car is a '66 Impala SS Convertible, and my dad bought the car new. I'm certain that it had the rocker moldings since new.

I purchased my 66 SS from the original owner back in 83 and was told the car was original from the factory. It had the rocker trim moulding spears on it.

Speaking of rocker trim does anybody know where one could obtain a couple of the end clips or fasteners that hold the trim on with a phillips head screw?
I've been searching all over for these things and apparently they are insanely hard to come by. Are they still produced somewhere?
There's a work around using plastic clips that someone posted on CT and as a last resort I will use that method, but I just wanted to go all original on my car.

Thanks
Dave
