2009 Chevrolet TrailBlazer LT / inline six engine

hi.

So this trailblazer started doing this weird thing... when I take out the key and open the door, lights/radio/etc used to shut off. Then I noticed one day sometimes it does, sometimes it does not... well one night this week I suppose it did not and ran the battery down. Not a fun walk home in the cold and rain.

Is this something in the switch or is it elsewhere? In the computers?

Once I jumped it off it ran fine, volts were great, etc.. I put it on the battery charger when I got it home, just to be sure as it was really drained.

Any tips of things to troubleshoot appreciated.

That's something to check, thanks.

the thing is, if I put the key back in and turn it on/off, it seems to kill it.

so, hmn.

charged up battery... dead again at 10.xx volts

Either battery is not taking the charge or it is sitting there draining.

I disconnected the battery yesterday and charged it again, I'm interested to see if the battery holds a charge not being connected to the vehicle.

That's the thing to check today.

so, battery disconnected from vehicle was 10.74 volts.

Maybe the battery up and died... hmmn.

I took it out, I'm going to take it to the battery store, maybe they can test it or charge it... never know, maybe my old charger is wonky too... but looking like a dead battery, but I guess they will be able to tell for sure.

so, battery wouldn't take a charge at the store with their fancy charger... so new battery... still not reading right, so I guess the alternator is kaput as well.

been watching videos, I think maybe I can take it off... xD

should be an annoying adventure.

and holy cow, modern alternators are pricey!

Sure are! I take mine and have them rebuilt. New bearings and internal parts are sometimes less expensive. Sometimes all they need are bearings which take the most abuse. A tear down and clean have made internal parts last longer.

When a battery or alternator start or go bad, they can damage the other one if not fixed quickly.

Yep, I'm thinking that is what happened here.

New battery and reman alternator installed, so far so good, now for the other problems.
