Well a bit of peer pressure had me going from a 350 two bolt main to 383 four bolt main flat tap motor with 600 carb. Now that same dear friend is trying to convince me there is no need to connect the electric choke and that I will learn to cold start this motor. I have two weeks before he returns to help fine tune the car and intend to connect the e choke during this time.
Is there any logical reason to not connect the choke?

I don’t understand why he wouldn’t want you to hook up the choke. The car will be easier to start and run better when the engine is cold and will automatically adjust as the engine warms up. Without it, especially if the choke blade is still in place but not hooked up, it will be hard to start and you will have to constantly play with the throttle to keep it running and may never run well even when warmed up depending on the static position of the choke blade.

No logical reason. Hook it up.

People blindly recommend not doing things correctly, like not using a vacuum advance, or not using one right, no choke, other stuff, because they are taught to not do it right, or, they simply do not, or, refuse to understand it.
USE THE CHOKE.

If the choke is not hooked up electrically, but, as mentioned, the blade is in place, the engine will start easily but run way too rich as it warms up and idle too fast. The choke not only lets it start easier, it sets the fast idle so that it stays running while warming up, without holding the throttle in a fast idle position.

Thanks for confirmation of doing what I and we know as the right thing to do.

Do you have the procedure for setting the choke correctly? It isn't hard to do.
