i just bought a 2010 express 1500 LS 5.3L van today. no power doors, locks or cruise control. my 1990 G20 had all those things. kinda silly. anyway...i really need to add cruise control to it. this is by far the newest and fewest miles vehicle i have ever owned. it's so quiet! driving it home from the lot i found myself speeding a lot cuz i'm not used to the lack of engine noise and no cruise control. anybody ever add CC to a newer express van? is the 2010 1500 LS drive-by-wire or cable throttle? can i buy one of those $300 3rd party CC controllers or the $50 OEM switch and wire it in somehow? thanks

I have.
I feel for you. I have a 2012 that was driven 750 miles a week and no cruise control.
In order to do it you will need the switch that bolts onto the steering wheel. Can be had for cheap.
You will also need the trim attached to the back of the steering wheel. It has the dip where the switch sits.
You will need the harness from the clockspring to the cruise switch and horn button
Steering wheel gets removed. The wiring is present all the way to the clockspring. The clockspring will not need to be changed.
Just the small harness that plugs into it behind the horn button.
Once installed try it out. If it works you are done.
If it does not then you will have to take a trip to your local dealer to have them program it.
I had to, but yours being a 2010 you may get lucky.
Hope this helps
Edit
D1957E is the delco part number for the switch

my old g20 has a vacuum powered CC module that sits on top of the engine block. you're saying i won't need to go into the engine bay? it's all in the steering wheel? i'd also appreciate any help in finding locating the trim part online. so far i can only find that switch

Nothing under the hood. It should be drive by wire.
It works from the bcm.
The trim and small harness would probably be a good used find.
I got a whole wheel with everything when I did mine from ebay.

I've got parts coming in the mail and i just watched a YT video of how to remove the airbag. I've never messed around with an airbag before; how finicky are they? Do i really have to disconnect the battery first?

I recommend that you do.
They are cake to remove, just take your time and get the feel for the tabs.
Hope these pics help.
The harness on the right is the one you need. And the cruise switches go on the left.
If you get the audio ones too they may or may not work. Mine do not. Dealer said they tried but no success
