If I apply lubricant to the outside of my vent cables will the lubricant work its way past the spiral wound wire and lubricate the inside?

Probably not. Go to a motorcycle shop and buy a cable luber. It along with your favorite aerosol lube and straw should do the trick.

I had good luck with spraying them with Deep Creep by Seafoam.

X2 I have done this on several vehicles. It takes a few days but it works.

I hang mine with a bucket under them to catch run off. I spray them several times a day for about a week.

As I said just soak the entire cable in a oil drain pan( spray the cable 3 to 4 times). My cable was stuck now it works....

The cables on my 1962 are plastic sheathed, so spraying the ends is the only way to get the oil into them. I have seen pictures of some that have steel wound wire sheaths, but not certain if they are replacements or originals. I can see soaking those, because the oil will penetrate the steel coils.
