Hey guys,
Is this the correct shape for the front frame horns on a 62? I've had two cars that look exactly like the below picture and I'm trying to determine if that shape is factory made, or if that is because of damage. See arrows.

Please help!

both of those frame horns are damaged. They are pushed in and bent on the top.

Are you sure that is a 62 frame? It doesn't look like an x frame in the photo.

Check out "1962 Impala Frame" on YouTube, this should help.

I have nothing but 62's I personally removed the 62 body from that frame before the frame in the pictures was restored.
In fact all 61 to 64 frames all models are the same(only the convertible frames have extra metal reinforcement on the top and bottom of the frame rails from the firewall to the rear of the cars)

The frame on Y tube is a 61 to 64 hardtop, sedan and station wagon frame

I think Nickes frame is not an x frame, judging by that tranny mount.

That mount looks ok to me. It looks like it is the top hole. Paul may have an after market mount on his frame.

The transmission mount in my frame is for a Richmond 5 speed using the original factory mounts on the 62 frame.

It looked too long to me, probably just the camera angle?

Hi Paul,

Did you have that 5spd cross member made, make it yourself or did you buy it from someone?

It was made by a local friend who had done one for 61 Chevy Impala restoration with a Richmond 5 speed behind a small block Chevy motor, that he did for another friend that I know.

He is actually a retired body shop guy who does outstanding restoration work on classic cars at his house/acreage. He doesn't paint but he does everything else.

I asked him to make me one for my 62 SS 409 convertible. I asked him if he had a template drawing to make them a few weeks ago. The reason I asked him is the 1st one he did was already in the 61 when he did mine. He said he could not remember.

Thanks for clearing it up guys.
Yes, the pic I posted is certainly a 62 frame. Here's two other picture of it.

Much better pics. It is an x-frame alright and as Paul stated, it took a head-on shot to the front end sometime in its life.
