Seems like I am always having problems with my mechanical voltage regulator on my 55 belair with a SB and low amp generator. I have had a couple of different regulators in the car and they have been unreliable at best. The generator is good. I want to keep a generator in the car, not convert to an alternator. My question is does anyone know of or have any experience with an electronic regulator for a generator. I have had no luck trying to find one. Thanks.

Back in the 70's I had a neighbor that was a road repair man for Caterpillar and he gave me one of his regs for my 61 Chevy. It worked great. Maybe try one of them. I think they might be better then the China crap available at parts stores.

You will have to know the amperage capacity of your generator to make it work correctly.
Example the stock conventional generator was 25 amps. The heavy duty and power steering generator was 35 amps.
