Hi all
I'm planning to replace my parking/emergency brake cables on my 58 impala.
Just wondering if this is something I can do on jack stands and how difficult it might be.
Any hints are appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

Hi I only replaced the middle parking brake cable on my 1960 El camino it was straight forward. I just lifted the rear wheels on blocks of wood to give me added clearance. Just loosened the adjustment nut and ran it where the old one was, the cable ends have balls which slip into the cable clips. The front one would be more difficult so cant help with that one as mine was in good condition. I have a hoist but had another car on it at the time it would be easier doing it on a hoist but doable on jack stands or ramps.

When trying to remove the cables through the backing plates use a small worm style hose clamp to compress the cable retainer where it passes through the backing plate. Just barely tighten it so as you pull the cable through the plate the clamp will slide off.
