My in heater hose (lower) restrictor valve broke.  Replaced it with a straight thru pipe. Engine overheats after short drives and gurgling can be heard after shutting down.

Have read that this valve is also important to cooling as the restrictor helps force hot water to radiator for cooling so planning to add aftermarket valve.

Replacement restrictor valve has an arrow on it. Should it point towards the firewall (my guess) or towards the front?

Any advice or link for proper bleeding of air from system would be appreciated.

    In response to Highlander1

the restrictor should be on the bottom hose pointing to the heater core
