About the pull the trigger on a remanufactured long block for my 2007 Silverado... (it's burned 1qt oil per 2k mi and is now tapping extremely loud w check engine light). Looking at Rock Auto or (other suggestions/feedback welcome!)

Thinking about buying a kit to delete the AFM.

Powertrain Products is $2,999. (i think their engine warranty is 4 years).

Rock Auto has a few options ranging from $1900 (VIN O) to $2,500 (VIN M). Warranty is 3 yr/30k). My truck is VIN M, but - do I need the more expensive long block if I am deleting AFM?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you don't want to actually do the mechanical changeover to get rid of the AFM, I'd suggest this.

It is actually a little cheaper on Amazon. $175.

I put one on my 2009 Silverado, and I love it. I have moved it to my wife's Escalade for long trips a couple of times, and it works flawlessly!

My mileage went from 15.3 avg to 15.8.

No, I'm not a salesman. I just want to share some good info.

You do have to watch the older engines because the older stuff will have a 24x crank sensor and a 1x cam sensor while your engine will have a 58x crank sensor and a 4x cam sensor. This change happened somewhere around 2005 or 2006 so a 2006 or 2007 GMT800 wrecker pull or rebuilt engine might be the sweet spot between having the right sensors (reluctor rings) and no AFM.

Around here, I could scrounge up a usable 5.3L or 4.8L without AFM for about $500. Any place around there to find such a thing?

If you do use an engine without AFM then you'll have to find a tuner to tune it out of the PCM.
