I am a long-time CT addict, but for the past 3-4 years, since I sold our wagon, I've been a lurker.
Now, thanks to my grown daughter, I have a new project in a smaller garage and will be pestering the folks on here for information and guidance as I wade through the issues the car presents.
The car:

Welcome back Paul.
Wow, that's the holy grail of 69 Camaro (COPO excluded). I have to ask, is it real?

Tony: it’s real but not correct...originally LeMans Blue Z28 with spoilers. Legitimate DZ engine out of a July car, this is an early June car so chambered exhaust is acceptable. Paint is a big dollar complete job, interior done well, engine strong and definitely a 30-30 cam, M21 needs 3/4 synchronizers, posi is chattering, .the car checks out as though the “restorer” ran out of money and put it back together incomplete to sell at Mecum auction.

Tony, are you saying that the '69 Z28/RS is the holy grail? If so, it's nice to know. Mine was real. Still shaking my head...

Hey Dave,
Well its my holy grail. I was in the 8th grade in 69 and a Hugger Orange 69 Z28 with Hide away headlights was just about the coolest car in the world.
Not withstanding the COPO was there something cooler as a Chevy Camaro in 69.
Share with me please?
p.s. Perhaps our def of Holy Grail may differ a bit. ha

From 1971. Daytona Yellow, No cowl hood or rear spoiler. Manual steering and power discs. Sold it in '73. Started kicking myself in the '90's.

This one is manual steering. I've already ordered the correct parts to change that to power steering. The car should be enjoyable to drive or why bother?
This one is 3.73 gear set...I would prefer 4.10's for the limited road use it will see.
Our goal is to present a '69 in its Z28 glory with as much accuracy as necessary to gain AACA recognition while retaining the fun aspect of driving it. No AC, no big stereo, just a car on which all the model's features are included without regard to the total accuracy of the date coding. I did a '61 Vette to the NCRS judging matrix and that experience was enough of chasing dates for the rest of my life.
We could restamp and we could replace the cowl trim tag to reflect the change in exterior and interior color. But we won't do that. I feel it's too close to flirting with building a counterfeit car.
We do have proof of it being a legitimate Z28. That's what is important to us. One of only 20,000 produced in '69!

Dave, the rear spoiler was NOT standard on the Z28 in 1969?? I always thought it was....

It wasn't there when I got the car, but it may have had previously repaired damage to the trunk/tail light area. It did have chambered exhaust...

Spoilers were included as part of Z28 after April '69. Prior to that time, they were optional. The 67-68 spoilers in stock were used on 69's up through the 1st quarter of '69.
Ours is a June car and the spoiler was replaced with the 67-68 version. A correct replacement is in the plans.
