I acquired an 64 imp ss. After removing the rusted body i found 2 interesting items. 1) it is a factory duel exhaust car with all brackets. 2) on the chassis where the rear arched suspension bar mounts--there is a welded factory brace. This welded brace is shown in the assembly manual but not much wording as what it is or what its function. I was told that this extra brace was attached to the 409 build cars.
Not sure if this is true or not. Comments?

Post a pic of the brace?

Dual exhaust also came with 327's in 64, you can be confident this was a 327 or 409 car.

The extra brace was used on 300hp cars as well as 409 cars. To confirm a 409, look for evidence of a fuel return line or the clip for one above the rear shock tower.

Verne

BTW: The frames themselves were the same, regardless of engine. Either a Budd or Detroit frame, or in the case of a convertible, an A.O. Smith frame.
