I have a 1989 Caprice Classic Brougham with the thick vinyl top. The local glass shops are saying that the vinyl has to be removed before the rear glass can be replaced. It appears to me that the glass is installed from the inside of the car. Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks, Tim

I know that the Brougham of that era had a different roof than the Caprice sedan. I have never heard of the glass being installed from the inside.

Your glass shop is probably correct. I'm sure that they'd rather pull it out the easy way if there was one. You can always ask the dealer if anyone there knows.

Mercedes,
Thanks for the response. I spoke to a butt load of glass shops here in Bum Flock Montana before I found an older guy that had experience with these cars. You are correct. It installs from the outside. The vinyl top will have to be pealed back. He is the only person around here that is willing to do the install. Everyone else said that I would have to have the top removed at an upholstery shop before they would touch it. There will probably be some damage given that the top is 28 years old. Also, he was not able to get the glass so I'll have to buy it. Least expensive 1990 rear glass with defroster I could find was $275.00 just for the glass. Chaps my a**, but I don't have much choice. My appointment is next week. I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks, Tim
