How much weight have you guys put on your Suburban's without doing any damage to the roof?

Thinking of something like loaded coolers which should bear on a few of the pads between the outside rails more so than point loads.

Thanks,

Mike

This was recently asked on another forum and I suggested it might be in the owner's manual; apparently it is - another member found in his 1998 Suburban manual the recommended limit is 200 lbs.

Thanks!

If the book says 200 I bet it'd hold 400...or at least a cooler full of ice & Elk!

At least 1000 lbs. The green bundle on the roof rack in the photo is my 16' x 16' military wall tent. It alone, according to the GI manual weighs 700 lbs. This is a wooden rack I built that merely sits on top of the OEM rack. I traveled from NC to WA and back over 9 months this way. zero trouble.

How do you get a 700lb tent on the roof?

One piece at a time.
The end walls come off and are 2 separate pieces The center section is another separate piece. The floor is a separate piece, and all the Aluminum & steel frame pieces are separate pieces. The metal frame sections are not in the green "fabric" bag obviously. They are lying on the floor of the roof rack with everything loaded on top of them. The wood stove disassembles, flu pipes come apart, etc, etc. It's not rocket surgery boys.
