Just tried first startup on new 350 crate motor in my 56 Bel Air with classic update harness. All lights, gauges, radio, wipers, ect working properly, but no spark at the plugs. With switch turned on, but not cranking I get 12 volts at the distributor BAT connection with it disconnected from the cap, but it drops to around 1.8 volts when connected. Put another known working distributor in, same thing happens. Checked connections at ignition switch (AAW new style) and all seems in order. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

You apparently have a bad connection on the pink ignition wire. Do the indicator lights go out when you plug the pink wire in the distributor? If so, the bad connection is at the switch. If the indicators stay on bright when the wire is plugged in the distributor, check the connection at the engine connector near the fuse panel.

Thank you for your help. You got me thinking in the right direction. I ran a jumper from the ignition switch directly to the distributor to see if it was the wiring or the switch. She fired right up. Now I have to trace the other wire to find the fault. So good to hear it for the first time.
