I bought a 65 Impala 2 door for parts. I needed some front grill and headlight parts. it has been sitting for quite a few years. Rust has taken over. I am trying to figure out the engine. the stamp on the psgnr side front is K0617U6. I cannot seem to decode it. there are 327 badges on the car.
After I got the car home I realized it has a tilt steering column. Is it worth doing the swap?
Car is from Canada if that helps.

Glad you're getting the parts you need. I wish I had a tilt, just sayin'...

When you say 'from the passenger side', are you referring to the engine pad on the block?

A look here GM Engine Codes gives lots of info.

The K gives us the St. Catherines, Ontario production plant.
The 0617 is June 17th manufacture date (unknown year!)
There is no 'U6' suffix code (it should be 2 or 3 letters), a picture of the engine pad might help.

Sorry, but am unable to see the block stamping. Could you please put some light on it and shoot it close up?

Also, there will be a casting number and date code on the top rear of the engine behind the intake manifold. This can definitely tell you the year of the engine and possibly the displacement, but will take some doing to get in there and see it.
