Hi all,

Does anyone know if there’s such a thing as an adapter that screws into the back of the speedo and then the speedo cable screws into that to make the miles speedo read as kilometres? And if so, where are they found? I know there’s ones for kilometres to miles but I can’t find any for the reverse. Cheers

Nothing is different, just the scale in the speedometer!

So would there be an adapter that changes miles to kilometres?

Or is there a smaller rotating gear that can convert it? Any ideas on who’d be best to ask?

There is one variant you mount on the transmission.

In my country, this is one place to get them:

It seems this is a source for them in the US - much cheaper too.

The cable rotates 1000 revolutions for every mile driven. So, just re-gear it so it rotates 1000 revolutions for every km driven. Swap the gears in the tail shaft. Google your transmission and calculating the speedometer gears and follow the info to correct it to read 161% higher than it currently does.

If not that, then use a speedometer correction gearbox. Offhand, I don't know a source for a speedometer correction gearbox so you'll have to Google it and see what you find. Ask for one that is a 1:1.61 ratio.

What am I missing here? I would think the only thing needed would be the needle backdrop displaying Kmh.

It sounds like he wants to retain the MPH-scale on the face, but change the gear/cable/needle to run at KPH.
In essence, 10mph on the face will equal 10kph actual, 20mph=20kph.....100mph=100kph, etc.

That’s correct.

There’s an adapter on the second link above that speeds up the revolutions by 61% and will make the speedo display a kilometre speed rather than a Miles speed.

I’ve purchased one so I will update and tell you all know if it works when I install it.

Thanks all!

The down side in doing what you want to do is your odometer will rack up mileage much faster than if you just changed the guage face. 1 mile=1.6 Kilometers. Here in Canada we went metric when I was in my late teens. To this day when seeing speed limit signs in KM's I still convert it to miles in my head, same thing with temperatures.

I missed that too. But why, at 120 on the converted US speedo, you're only traveling 75 mph. Not real fast!

Yep, you would be pretty much pegged by going with the flow on an interstate.
