Easy fix: The wire from the distributor cap to coil popped off the cap. Don't ask me how. Replaced plug wires, cap, rotor, and distributor module. Thanks all for the help!!

Truck started fine twice today. Third time no start. Engine turns over. Fuel pump is only a few years old but I think its not getting spark. Starting fluid made no difference. Turned on the radio to wait for tow and radio pre-sets were gone. This suggests to me that the problem is electrical. Dash lights work, Inside fuses look good. 88 K1500, 350. Any help would be appreciated.

Just because you know how old the fuel pump is doesn't mean it's good. A lot of them are bad out of the box.

Can you hear the pump prime? What is your battery voltage? Don't use the gauge, use a multimeter. Are your battery cables tight?

I have never heard the fuel pump prime the whole time I have owned the truck,(7 years). The engine turns over, the battery has plenty of juice. I think the cable connection is good because the starter works. The starter fluid didn't get the engine to catch. If it did, the engine would have caught and run for as long as the fluid lasted. I'm not ruling out the fuel pump but since the starter fluid didn't help, am assuming there is no spark.

Check for loose connections on the firewall at the distribution block, passenger side under the big plastic cover. A loose one there might explain why your starter is getting normal power but other circuits seem to have glitched out on you.

I looked in there while I was waiting for the tow truck. I didn't fiddle with anything though. It looked old under there. I have never touched anything in there over the last 7 years of ownership. I left it in a mechanics parking lot for now but I have to go over there with the keys tomorrow and I will look then. All the other electrical seems to work except the pre-sets and that may not mean anything.Just thought I would only mention it just in case. I love my truck. It's been as reliable as time. Most people I know at 30 years old aren't as in good a shape as it is.

I have had bad battery connections cause the exact same problem. It can be VERY intermittent.

One time I literally tightened the positive battery cable 1/4 turn to snug it up and problem went away.

I've also had hidden corrosion in the positive cable. Someone here told me to inspect my positive cable better heading towards the starter. I found serious corrosion inside the cable cover/housing. So bad I had to buy a new cable battery to starter.
