The car handled like crap after an alignment , wandered all over, so I made some toe plates and spent the afternoon adjusting tie rods. Car now handles like a new car!

Went on the Mackinac trip and still have the vibration on the freeway. Ordered new rear springs, and going to do new carrier & pinion bearings. Since the axles & bearings were trashed, those are probably no better.

Ordered the bearing kit today. I'll be busy next week and got a car show that Saturday.

Installed some Posie 3" drop springs (203-A) a couple days ago. Wanted some standard height and use blocks to adjust the ride height, but Posie's said they don't make those. So, prevent a too low ride height when the new spring settle in, the shackles are flipped down. The springs have already settled an inch.

While I was doing the springs, I made some sway bar links to replace the crappy ones that came with the bar.

We've been plagued with a few issues and trying to squeeze them in between car shows & cruising. One was a painfully slow AC leak. a restricted airflow from the center AC vent, and that vibration at high speed. The AC leak ended up being the pressure hose between the evap & firewall, the hardest hose to get to. A recrimp of the fitting to hose took care of that. fingers crossed! Modified the back of the center AC vent to reduce the kink in the flex duct. Didn't take pictures of these, but, will post some later. I pulled the rearend apart and found all 4 bearings were galled up, much like the axle bearings. Already had the rebuild kit, so new bearings & races are installed and final assembly is today. This should take care of the vibration. One final note, we've turn over 5000 milesof fun!

Finished the rearend bearing job & took the 49 out for a test ride. No more vibration! Took it up to 85mph and decided I need to spend more time on the freeway, I’ve never had the car at that speed before!

Thank you! I have to admit, it was a tad unnerving at that speed the first time.

Well, the vibration saga continue, but there's light at the end of the tunnel! After driving the car more, we decided that we STILL had some vibration, so we took the drive shaft, to a different shop, Valley Truck Parts, to get rebalanced. They found the tube was .015" out of round and they couldn't balance it. It must have been the last drive shaft the other shop built before for they went out of business. So, we had them make a new one. That one made a big difference, but, some vibration was still there. So, that led to checking driveline angles and low and behold, both the trans & read end were off 1,5 deg. Again, so, the 49's getting a driveline makeover, Crossmembers been modified, as well as the 5 other things that affected and I need to shim the rear end. Now the 49 and the Caddy are both up on jackstands for the winter. The fun never stops.

Know what you mean.I chased a vibration on my '37 street rod. Finally took the drive shaft to another shop and they found the weight was welded on 180 degrees off. this happened when the orig. shop shortened the shaft.

The angle of the engine/trans is the first thing to check, in our shop we find some installations have 5-6 degrees down angle, which can make it difficult to achieve the proper pinion angle, resulting in driveline vibrations.

When I built the car, the target was 3*, using a manual inclinometer. Now my digital one read 4.5*, an inch difference in the crossmember. I’ll probably go with new perches on the rear.
