I'm putting a new carb on. I need some 5/16" rubber hose. I dug around in the tool box and I found some unused rubber trans-cooler hose.

Will that work as a fuel line?

Thanks, I was thinking about it...for 3 bucks I can get the right hose and not worry about it leaking and then burning to the ground.

Leaking would not be the problem with low pressure hose. Rubber bits flaking off the inside of the hose from the alcohol will cause problems in the carb.
