I frequently spray smaller items. On these jobs I require only a few ounces of paint at a time, and I don't need or want a huge fan pattern. On these smaller items I also use pearl or flake of medium size(but not jumbo-sized "bass boat" flake). These are automotive urethane BC/CC and SS paints.

I have full size guns to shoot this stuff, they are easy to find. I also have a mini gun with a standard 1.0 tip size, it will not handle even mini-sized flake. I also don't want a "flake-blaster", they appear designed to hose on jumbo-size flake in a relatively primitive manner.

I'd love to find a quality HVLP mini gun that's available with both a "standard" 1.0 tip, and something larger, say a 1.5 tip. So I could use it for small BC/CC jobs and then switch tips to shoot flake. From what I've seen, allegedly a 1.5 tip on a mini gun is comparable to a 2.0 tip on a full-size gun.

Does anyone know of a good mini/detail HVLP gun that is available with a selection of tip sizes, including LARGE tip sizes? Can't seem to find such an animal. Do you have to use a full-size gun to shoot flake???

In case anyone else is interested - I ended up buying a Sharpe Finex FX1000 mini hvlp gun. There are 5 tip sizes available for this gun up to a 1.4. I bought the gun with the 1.0 tip for base/clear, and also bought the 1.4 accessory kit(needle, cap, tip) for flake. The 1.4 won't spray .025 jumbo size flake but .015 is doable. Pearls and .008, .004 flake are no problem at all.

HI!
Thanks for letting us know how your selection worked out. I assume you recommend the gun? Any reservations?
Thanks, Doug

It's good for the money ($115). It won't lay clear like my Sagola gun but it's a good size for small jobs and will spray small to medium flake. Plus now I can keep flake out of my good gun. I was just happy to find a mini gun with relatively large tip sizes. Hard to find!

I agree, that is pretty cool. Really cool if the light switch covers in the garage were painted the same as the car!

Do you spray the screw heads too, I do.
